Very simply it can be told that cell broadcasting system is a way for delivering messages or alerts on the mobile phones through geo-targeted geo-fenced in a desired locality. The NMDA plans to issue "red alerts" to all mobile as cell broadcast. Thus it will not hamper the telecom traffic. All Indian mobile sets are compatible to NavIC (Indian GPS), then it is easy to send the alerts on all mobile sets through the existing dedicated Indian GPS without hampering the tele-operation. The NMDA member, Lt. Gen Syed Ata Hasnain told reporter that at the first phase Rs. 350 crore CAPS was sending disaster precautionary alerts as SMS (Short messaging Service) to the cell phone user in a defined area. Very interestingly it can be noted that During the cyclone in Gujarat around 32 million SMS alerts were issued. As a result of these SMS saved massive for Indian economy. This SMS Alerting system was also a fast and reliable medium to contact with huge mass.
