Today is 31st October. This is a memorable day in Indian politics as a bereaved day because of this is the death anniversary of 3rd Indian Prime minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was the first and only female prime minister in India(till now). she served for three consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and a fourth term of 1980 until her assassination in 1984. she was born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad, as the only child of Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India. She had a lonely and unhappy childhood as her father abstain away for Indian freedom fighting and her mother was a tuberculosis patient. she received her education from different colleges and university in India and abroad. Even she studied in Oxford university in England and also she was a scholar of Visva Bharati at Shanti Niketan, Bolpur, Birbhum. She married Firoze Gandhi, a politician and journalist. She had two son named Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi.

      Indira Gandhi entered in Indian politics as a personal assistant of former prime minister, her father, Jawaharlal Nehru. She held different position as President of Indian National Congress, the minister of information and broadcasting and the leader of opposition. In 1966 she was elected as Indian Prime minister after death of Lal Bahadur Shastri. It was challenging for her as she was younger and inexperienced.

        As the prime minister, Indira Gandhi faced many challenges, both in domestic and international. She implemented several social and economic reforms, such as nationalizing banks, abolishing privy purses, promoting green revolution. he was the first nuclear test launch and initiated family planning programs. She also dealt with various crisis, such as Indo-Pakistan war in 1971. It  created emergency in 1975-1977 which suspended civil liberties and democracy in India. The operation Blue star of 1984 aiming the flush out of Sikh militants from the Golden temple in Amritsar that triggered her assassination on 31st October in that year,1984.

        Indira Gandhi is widely regarded as one of the most influential and controversial leaders of India. She is praised for her courage, charisma, and determination to uphold India's sovereignty and unity. she is also criticised for her authoritarianism, corruption and human right violation. she was assassinated in her Delhi residence by her two body guard. her death news sparked widespread riots and violence across India, especially against Sikh. She was succeeded by her son Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, who also became the prime minister of India. However on her death India lost her genius daughter.
