Gandhi received his early education at home and then attended local school. He was married at the age of thirteen to Kasturba Makhanji, a girl from the same age from a wealthy merchant family. In 188, he left for London to study Law and in 1991 he became a barrister. There he experienced racial discrimination and witnessed the oppression of the Indian community by the white minority. He organised several campaigns of civil disobedience against unjust law and policies. He developed his philosophy and strategy of Satyagraha which involved nonviolent resistance through non cooperation, fasting and peaceful protest.

In 1914, Gandhi returned to India and join the National Congress, the main political party fighting for India's freedom from British rule. He was arrested several times by British authorities for his activities but he never gave up his struggles for India's independence.

However he was deeply saddened by the partition of India into two nations: India and Pakistan, which resulted widespread violence and displacement of millions of people. He tried to prevent the bloodshed and restore peace between the two nation but he was assassination by Nathuram Godse, the Hindu extremist who blaming him appeasing Muslims.
