The Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) is the national space agency of India, established in 1969. ISRO is responsible for planning, executing and managing various space activities in the country, such as satellite launch, remote sensing, communication, navigation, metrology and exploration. ISRO has undertaken several different mission over the years, ranging from scientific to commercial to strategic. Some of the notable missions are discussed below.
Aryabhata: The first Indian satellite was launched in 1975 by a soviet rocket.
Chandrayan: The first lunar mission was orbited and landed on the moon in 2008 and 2019 respectively.
Mangalayan: The first interplanetary mission reached the orbit of Mars in 2014.
PSLV: The polar satellite launch vehicle can launch multiple satellite into various orbits.
GSLV: The geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle can launch heavier satellites into geostationary orbit.
RLV-TD: The reusable launch vehicle technology demonstrator tested the feasibility of a winged body that can glide back to earth after launch.
Gangayan: The human spaceflight program aims to send three astronauts to low earth orbit by 2023.
