Barbaric Homicide at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel-Mumbai-A Tribute to Victims.
It was 26 th of November, 2008 whole Mumbai is fully busy. As usual Taj Mahal Palace Hotel was also busy in serving their host and guest. Main gate was welcoming all the delegates. The staffs are accepting their ordeal. None was sceptical of coming the foes to the inn.

The guest were easy to enjoy their leisure in the ballroom, some of them were dealing with their clients and customer. Everything was fine & well being. Rohan Jain, a 14 years handsome boy was at hotel with his family. Karambir Singh Kang, General Manager of the Hotel Taj was residing with his family. He had with his two sons and his wife. Devika Rotwan was working as the female staff in the hotel. Oberoi family was also in the hotel. They were with their 32 years old boy. Everyone among the inmates of the hotel of Tata Sons group was full of satisfaction in security. No one thought of the brutal incidents happened in the hotel premises.
Around at 9.45 PM on 26th of November,2008 suddenly four terrorists entered to hotel's lobby and started to fire on staffs & guest of the hotel. Security on the spot immediately informed the general manager, Mr. Karambir Sing Kang. He was initially spellbound of the happening. He hen tried to his staffs and guests. Meanwhile the gun man shot his two sons and his wife. He was his in bereavement but he was loyal to his responsibility. He tried hard to save the 32 years boy, Ashok from the veil of Oberoi family. The terrorist shot on Devika but fortunately she was survived. NSG commando, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan killed in operation. Additional Commissioner of Police, Ashok Kamte killed during rescue operation. Thus attack was ended on 29 th of November with a loss of total 174 live including 20 security personnel and 26 foreigners. Ten militants from Laskar-e Taiba was associated in the terror group. Nine members except Ajmal Kasab were shot dead. The only survived Kasab was convicted & sentenced to execution.
Government of India accepted the responsibility for the attack and Shivraj Patil, the interior minister resigned. However it shows the loopholes in the security system. Aftermath of the massacre Government took multifaceted approach to strengthen internal security. National Investigation Agency (NIA) was formed to handle independently the cases of terrorism cases. It has the sole responsibility for investigation & prosecution. It sought to strengthen the coastal security. Counter terror attack collaboration with US was an important milestone. Besides all these steps, discussion with Pakistan to demolish the terror group like Lashkar-e-Taiba. However the incidents was bad patch of International image of India as it failed to save the foreign guests.
Prosecution of Ajmal Kasab: The only live terrorist, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the youngest member of Lashkar-E-Taiba was caught by the NSG personnel. He was trained in Pakistan and delegated for Mumbai attack. He was highly inducted with the intense philosophy of terrorism. Even he was not disappointed for the human killing. After a prolonged judicial trial on 21st of November, 2012, Ajmal was sentenced to be executed by hanging at Yerawada Central Jail in Pune.
Legacy & Remembrance:
Today the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace has been restored to it's earlier glory. The memories of the terror attack is still sparkling in the mind of Mumbaikar. Taj Hotel memorial has been built to the memories of victims and deceased. Maharashtra government built a memorial in the Police Gymkhana to honour the security personnel. Every year on 26th November a National Tribute to the victims and their family. The parents of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Mr. K Unnikrishnan and Dhanalakshmi wrote a book on his son's life and sacrifice.
